CARNIVALE’S BALLOON RAILCARS PART 4

Inspiration for this ionic cartoon character came from a passage in Mark Twain's book ROUGHING IT.  In describing a coyote, the line reads; "collides with failure, hungry, poor, friendless, A LIVING, BREATHING ALLEGORY OF WANT".  Using the standard cat/mouse chase story formula, Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese would add a superior nemesis, the ROAD RUNNER, put them in the desert and give WILE E. unlimited access to explosives from the ACME POWDER COMPANY......what could go wrong......well maybe for WILE E. but not the cartoons ultimate media success.  Besides his own shorts and specials, he would pair up with almost every cartoon character through the years and always with the inevitable outcome.

Chuck and Michael would go on to create a parallel universe for the polar opposites of WILE E. & ROAD RUNNER.  Using the same cat/mouse chase formula, SAM would be the smart one and RALPH......not so much.  SAM, inspired by the dog breed Berger Dr Brie (BRIAD) , always with his shaggy hair covering his eyes, mellow, soft spoken, was hired to protect a flock of sheep. RALPH's 'job' was to catch and eat the sheep.  Each morning, as friends, they would clock in at a time clock attached to a nearby tree and go about their assigned tasks, clock out for lunch together, clock back in to work and then out at the end of the day, always separating their friend/foe personalities 'by the clock'.

#NOTE: RALPHWOLF'S physical image was actually that of the WILE E. COYOTE, the only difference was RALPH had white eyes, not WILE'S yellow ones and WILE E'S nose was black while RALPH'S was red. To my knowledge, it was never explained why a different character wasn't created to play RALPH.
