April 2025- Carnivale School

Carnivale on the Green: A Railcar Based Traveling Carnival RAILCAR # 87

RAILCAR #87

CARNIVALE SCHOOL

Many of the various attractions and food concessions were family operated, some having children. The carnival operator would provide a classroom, and one of the Carney wives would take on the teacher's role.

THE STORY:

To make the back story about the CARNIVALE SCHOOL RAIL CAR more interesting, I've attempted to write it in verse......(sort of)......TRUE

With no teacher on board, the Carney kids were running amuck,

to find a teacher soon, would take a train load of luck.

But the train's engineer, Steve, harboring no fear, had a plan,

and said it clear, to the next town, the search at hand.

Even with ladies abound, still a teacher was not to be found.

Onward he would search, hot house, hen house and church.

Arriving in Fargo, now quite hungry from hauling cargo,

he goes for sushi, which was served by a lovely creature named Judy.

However, after being a bit leery,

Steve poised her the teacher query.

I would love to use my brain,

to teach the children on your train.

She said, without any weary.

It was a sure bet, that,

Steve and Judy would ride the rails together,

into the sunset.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Steve and Judy Arrigotti (Judy was a teacher) were the co-founders of the SACRAMENTO VALLEY GARDEN RAILWAY SOCIETY.

Go figure......

The story was fun, and probably not true. But the club founding part is.........TRUE

FINAL NOTE:

Concerning catch phrases, monikers and such, it has been said Judy is credited with the creation of the 'DUNCE CAP'. It seems a Carney family named Dunce, who operated the FIGHT CLUB CAR, had identical twins, Donny and Debi. Always unruly, teacher Judy would often sequester them to wear a borrowed witch's hat to wear and making a point. At witch....no, which, it soon became known as a DUNCE CAP ........TRUE
