PROFESSOR WALLENSKI RAILCAR #95
Actually, not all of the WALLENSKI'S were amazing......but it made good billing. This generational family of carnival performers and workers had immigrated from Poland, eventually joining the CARNIVALE troupe. This month's article is about a WALLENSKI family uncle. A lifelong magician, was billed as ' WALLENSKI-THE CRAZY WIZARD.' Future articles will follow the PROFESSOR, and other family members.
Every magician is expected, required, to pull a rabbit out of a hat sometime during their act. So too, CARNIVALE'S resident magician is expected to do the same.....but......this is CARNIVALE.....
THE PLEDGE:
The Professor......he likes to be called that......steps onto the empty stage with a top hat in hand. Turning to the audience, the Professor begins explaining what he is about to do is not 'slide of hand' or 'misdirection', but is actual magic.
THE TURN:
Holding the hat out in midair, and pointing to it, he mumbles POJAWIC'SIE*, after a short pause, a rabbit rises up out of the hat. A second word is spoken, SKAK'AC**. The rabbit hops down to the floor. The audience barely reacts, as this has been done in some variation by every magician for years......but then......another rabbit rises up out of the hat and jumps to the floor......and then another......and another.......until twenty-seven rabbits have filled the stage. The audience, now dumbfounded, is completely silent.
THE PRESTIGE:
Stepping down from the podium, the Professor walks to the front of the stage. Still holding the hat out in midair, pointing, mumbling again, saying WROC***. Moments later, a rabbit hops into the hat and disappears......and then another......and another.......until every rabbit has returned to the hat. The Professor, hat still in hand, quietly leaves the stage. After a long silence, the audience realizes the show is over and departs. Word quickly spreads of what was witnessed, creating ever increasing crowds to the show. EPILOGUE:Always claiming that the rabbit act was real magic, to this day, no one has ever been able to recreate, or explain what the Professor could do.
